Pediatric Ophthalmology
and Strabismus

Dr. Elsas grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College in 1964 and graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1968. He completed his internship at Duke in 1969 and a residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland in 1974. He also completed a year fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus in Baltimore, San Francisco and New York.

Dr. Elsas is an associate professor of ophthalmology and assistant professor of pediatrics at UAB. He has been a member of the faculty since 1977. He is also the Ophthalmologist-in-Chief at The Children's Hospital of Alabama. Dr. Elsas is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and has served as its secretary-treasurer.
